What is the best bourbon for the buck?
Reading another thread, now I want to go out and get some Ancient Ancient Age to try.
How does it rank with Jim Beam Black Label, which I haven't gotten yet but it is on my shoppin' list? How many bottles of bourbon can a man have in his cabinet? Lessee, I have Makers Mark, Knob Creek, Jim Beam White label, Old Forrester.... all in homage to the search for the best bourbon for the buck. Gentlemen, gentlemen I need yore advice. Whut can yew suggest? Leaning toward paying less if not least, what is the BEST for the BUCK? And no buck passin' either.

I'd have to go with WT 101. Find it on sale for $14.99 and it's very hard to beat.

I would agree with that, but never have I seen it for $15. Usual price for 750ml is over $20.
Ancient Ancient Age (a Buffalo Trace spirit) is available here for $24 for a 1.75L.

WT 101 price varies from place to place, but I'd say here it averages $18/fifth. Ancient Ancient Age is great, and I know some guys who have found a stray bottle of the 10-year (not the 10-star, which is a 6-year-old) up MD way. Either version is great.
But for my money, Buffalo Trace, averaging 8-9 years old and just a couple of dollars more, is a better value. 2 months ago, I'd have said Old Charter 12-yr, but it's gone up $5 a fifth and is soon to be gone from the market entirely. AAA (either one) is different from JB Black in that it has a lower rye content, so it doesn't carry the same spicy notes as JB Black, nor does it have any of the licorice often found in Beam. BT is slightly more spicy, despite being from the same distillery (it's a different mashbill), and has a lovely brown sugar note. If you're fond of spicy bourbons, JB Black or BT over AAA. Otherwise, AAA is a nice, sweet, slightly spicy and straightforward bourbon.

In the $20/bottle range, it is extremely difficult to beat Buffalo Trace, IMO.

I may be starting to climb the ladder a bit, but I think Eagle Rare at about $25 is screamin.

Based on the specifications offered (least amount of money) I really don't think you can find better than AAA. JWDant may be a good bet at $12 for a fifth.

Checked a couple of likker stores today while I was out. Couldn't find a one that sells Ancient Ancient Age...

Well, it's a favorite every day bourbon of myself, BigO, and LabRatGDI.
