How do you take your rum?
I'm a newb completely when it comes to drinking real rums. So far I've only had Pyrat XO and didn't really care for it, while smooth I just didn't like the overpowering orange/citrus taste it had. I recently came across a bottle of HC7 and am wondering how do you enjoy this libation. Do you drink it over ice, without ice, 1 cube, with water?

I didn't care that much for the HC7. I would drink it either over ice or with a splash of fruit-flavored carbinated water. I love Pyrat and Ron Zacapa Centenario. Both those I drink up

For me, HC7 is good all the way around--coke, sprite, mojito, straight over ice and a small splash of water. Nice robust rum taste with no hint of "spirits" as a filler, like a lot of readily available rums. Try it different ways and see which works best for you.

Anyone here who would DARE dilute HC7 with Coke, water, froo-froo water, or any other adulterant should be 'd!!!
Making a strong cocktail or MAYBE throwing an ice cube in would be acceptable...but just barely. Pour a few fingers in a shot glass, rocks glass, or snifter (I prefer the latter) and drink it straight up the way God intended! |

But the fact remains: HC7 and HC Blanco have flavors that work well with mixers. It makes an outstanding mojito. And, if mixed as an adult mixes a drink, you still get a great rum taste. If mixed like we did in high school and college, the mixer would drown it out. By the same token, if you want a good rum straight, the Anejo is not that much more expensive, and should NEVER be mixed with anything stronger than water. Otherwise, it is a waste of exceptional rum and money. No Anejo? Then, by all means--HC7!

Keep all my rum in the freezer, including any Cuban rum I happen to have... I mix mine with &/or lemonaide & make Mojitos outa it, an' don' give a shit in hell what others think... In the winter it's good over ice with a little water an' a twist, but it's way too gd hot here in the summer for drinkin' it like cognac.
