Turkish Coffee?

I paid a visit to the new place downstairs......doing my part to keep them in business ......and tried their version of Turkish coffee.
Interesting to say the least, made with VERY fine grounds plus the addition of cardamom spice?

interesting.....

Anyone else have much experience tasting/preparing Turkish coffee?

To see how to make it:
http://www.coffeegeek.com/guides/turkishcoffee

You need an ibruk:
http://www.sweetmarias.com/prod.brewers.ibrik.shtml

Many cultures have something similiar including gypsies and cubans. Basically powder coffee boiled in a small containeer sometimes with sugar. Very strong but also served in small quantities.

BTW, in mideastern cultures, if you are not served any of the crema, that is considered equivalent to a slap in the face.

I made some the other day while unpacking coffee paraphernalia. I have a 3 oz brass ibrik. Added some sugar coffee (didn't have cardamom pods) and let it boil 3 times. Awesome. A real deep rich brew that you just don't get even with espresso. Love it.

I have been trying out all of my home roasted beans turkish style. I am using a 16 Oz. stainless frothing pitcher found at the dollar store, seems to work very well.

I find the lighter roasts are much more enjoyable, and the fresher the beans are from roasting the more boils I get out of them. I easily made the four boils out of beans still warm out of my roaster. Week old beans boiled with little or no foam on the third attempt. I tried combinations of, plain, sugar, cardamom, coriander, and cinnamon. They where all good!

Follow those directions on Coffeegeek and you can't go wrong.

It's like coffee candy and very addictive. I am going to make a cup of Ethiopian Harar Turkish right now.

I have one of those stainless ibriks that I bought for a frothing pitcher. I will make a bigger batch since the little one is one a sip or two considering what you leave behind. Last Turkish coffee was made with Yemen.

Drank it every morning when I was in Greece. For some reason it really emphasized the chlorine taste in the city water. But still better than Nescafe.

Buy another toy!

Ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks!!!

I've got a 6,8 and 10 oz...I might use them 3-4 times a year. I don't drink too much Turkish style coffee, but it is a nice toy!

Ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks, ibriks!!!
