This is simply supply and demand. One could argue there's also a touch of stupidity. But it all boils down to supply and demand. Always has.

Provenance is key. Friend of mine paid $500 for an empty cigar box once owned by W.C. Fields.

An empty Opus X purple rain box for $252!!! What are they smoking? Although they also state its a travel humidor. BS IMO.

I have always just thrown the boxes away! Now, I have used a few for storing things, such as tools, pencils/pens, etc. Have always assumed that once empty a cigar box is completely worthless.
