I find it hard to believe that a shop doesn't first suspect mold. And it is pretty obvious when it is mold. A quick inspection with a magnifying glass will definitely tell you if it is mold.
I mean, how hard is it to tell the difference between tiny crystally powder and hairy or fuzzy mold when you hold it up to a magnifying glass? I always suspect the worst, until I can look harder at it, especially being in the wet northwest. Even with my aging eyes, a good magnifying glass will quickly tell you. Then again, no shop wants to admit that they have kept their cigars at less than optimal conditions. So it probably isn't that they don't know, but more that they don't want to admit that they screwed up some cigars. Just my opinion. |

That being said, there are always good guys. Don't want to toss the good guys in with the bad. |

I would suspect that in lower humidity areas, it may be more difficult to determine. |
