Lagavulin 12yr Cask Strength

I haven't had any yet...but I sure do want some! $159/bottle is a bit steep, IMO...

I'm certain I saw this one listed for about $100CDN through the Liquor Control Board of Ontario a little while ago (same price they were charging for the Lagavulin Distillers Edition Pedro Ximinez Finished).
Of course, it sold out.

As I describe in the first section of my book on single malt Scotch, this entails buying the regular 16 Year Old Lagavulin plus a high quality bottle of Pedro Ximinez Sherry.

For the latter, I'd recommend you go 1st-class and nab some Gonzalez Byass Noe (25 or 30 years old depending on how recent your purveyor's stock is).

You then pour the merest drop of the Sherry into the bottom of your glass and top it up with a healthy dram of the Lagavulin. While this 'home recipe' method can't exactly replicate the wood/wine extraction process involved in the distillery's own Sherry-finished bottling, it comes darn close!

The bottom line is you won't save much, if any, money. But you will have a great bottle of Scotch and a fabulous old rich'n'raisiny Sherry to boot. The truth be known, I made up this 'mix' even before the original Lagavulin DE (the 1979 vintage) hit the marketplace. Must have been psychic.

I really like the PX sherry. This sounds like a great combo. Gotta try it now!
