Do you trust the cigar ratings at Famous Smoke Shop?
Their cigar search is a wonderful tool. Are their customer cigar ratings reliable for sorting out the better smokes?

In other words, no, customer ratings will probably do you no good as with everywhere else until you can determine what you think is up your alley. JM $.02 |

I reviews I pay attention to are the ones at CW. After a while I know who likes pretty much the same cigars as I do. So when TommyBB, Smoker06, SmokinVI and several others respond to cigars in a positive way, I know I will likely like that smoke too.

I used to try everything that was new. But lately (the last two years or so) there seem to be so many new cigars that I can't seem to keep track of them all and I haven't been all that impressed with the majority that I have tried.
So know I do pay more attention to reviews and I tend to place the most merit in the reviews here at CW. If you look, there are probably more bad reviews here than any other place. I think that should tell you something. Oh, and thanks for the mention, Coley, but I gotta say that I've been accused of having the palate of a billygoat.

I enjoy readings someones description of a cigar, but numbers by themselves don't mean much to me.

The ratings are useful, but only as part of the bigger picture.
My method usually goes like this: 1) A vendor's site rates a cigar high that sounds like my tastes, 2) Do a search on CW to see what the comments and ratings are, 3) Check Topxxxxxxx to see what the ratings are. If all three have agreed I've got a good candidate. Now it's whether or not I like the flavor profile. |

I usually ignore them until I figure out exactly what shape, size, strength I want. Then if it's down to a few different cigars that I can't choose between I go with the ratings.

I have to agree with magnus. I take mental notes after trying cigars based on reviews, then I find who closely relates to my tastes. That's been the easiest for me other than recommendations from friends.

I use it as a tool. If the cigar fits my flavor profile and there are a significant number of reviews with a high rating I will throw that into buying equation.
