Famous Smoke Radio Ads

Last night I flipped on the radio (77 WABC, New York) around 10:15 or so and several minutes later I was surprised to hear a commercial for Famous Smoke!

I guess in the long range scheme of things it really isn't that important, but seeing how smokers rights have been trampled on in this country as of late I found it somewhat cool to hear their ad.

I haven't heard any in years, but at one time ads for Macanudo and Punch (with of all people Lawrence Taylor making the pitch) were often heard on NYC radio stations.......and up until recently Nat Sherman was very involved on the radio broadcasts of the football Giants.

These ads playing in any other cities? Either way, good for Famous!

I'll hear a Famous ad every once in a while on Sirius/XM.

Same here, they play on a fairly regular basis while listening to ESPN.

Heard their ads in Rocket City on talk radio quite often last year when I last lived there.

I've also noticed their popups while I'm on the web.

The popups are targeted. Suddenly, somehow, I started getting popups from not only famous, but CI, JR, Mikes, and so forth. They are targeted marketing.

I wonder if that sirius ad is also targeted somehow, but I can't imagine how that would work.

Sirius is missing a huge bet. If they put a bit of memory in the converter device, and got a profile of the client, they could download a cache of commercials to every individual device. Then, instead of broadcasting a bunch of ads for diapers, geico, frosted flakes, beer, and so forth to people who couldn't give a crap, there would be a personally tailored selection of commercials that would be randomly triggered by a signal to go to commercial break.

There is no need at all to broadcast wasted ad money to everyone on the planet when you have the capacity to at least tailor ads to a few members of the market.

Seriously, isn't it a great thing for business that now, I'm getting ads from businesses I want to see, rather than ads for hair restoration, diet pills, penis enlargement devices, and flo, the progressive girl? The internet advertising has finally become effective.

I guess those types of ads serve their purpose.......kind of like the way they pile things up around the checkout counters in the supermarkets to spur impulse sales.

When I was in a football forum this afternoon I saw a JR ad for a "Digital Sampler". I bit.

Since I installed AdBlock my web surfing days are ad-free.
