a good pipe is one that tempers the tobacco(if it's bitey) while at the same time enhancing whatever is smoked, it will not gurgle and smokes dry with almost all tobaccos. A good pipe can be a bit forgiving and allow you to smoke a bowl that would otherwise cause gurgle in some others.
all good smoking pipes will have well drilled internals and will be constructed fairly well, fit and finish may vary. I feel a lot of it has to do with the cure and quality of the briar. For this reason there are times you occasionally come across a good smoker in a budget line but in the higher end you'll find greater consistancy as the quality of briar used is excellent. all my humble opinion. |
