Love em. Especially with onions, garlic, thyme and sauteed in duck fat! They are one of my arthritis triggers, but I have to have them with a ribeye at least once a year.

Man I friggin love Loemein in and udon noodle but can never get it to taste like take out. Maybe I need to give this a whirl. Seems like all it is missing is habanero peppers . My favorite dish is beef vermicelli bowl. I love how the noodles, cucumbers, lettuce, nuts, fish sauce all go together. Could it it every day!

anchovies and fish sauce have a lot of unami as does the dried bonito flake which I cannot remember the name of...

Now you have me wanting noodles, T. Damned sight better than the granola bars I had for breakfast.

Rainy day here. Think I'll take the girls to the movies. Been wanting to see the new Spiderman movie. Hope that my back can take 2 hours of theater seats. They are planning to close the neighborhood theatre and build an international grocery on the site. Given that there is a Public, a Kroger and a Super Target on the 3 corners of the intersection already, I'd much prefer the theater, as the chances a British grocery is going to make it in that location are between slim and none. It's a multiplex, so it has zero architectural value, but once it's gone, it's either $100 for a family movie at Movie Tavern, or drive 20 miles south to Merchant's Walk 12.

To bring it back to food, I like movie theater popcorn. The foods not great at MT and the service leaves a lot to be desired, but the wife likes to have a couple of glasses of wine and an appetizer during the show so we go as a couple every two months or so.

Canal Place does that, now. I've never been. I haven't been to the movies in years, by choice. K. will go on occasion. If I'm going to blow $40 or $50 bucks I'm going for a meal. Sadly, we went to a fantastic grilled cheese joint, last night that set me back that much

Someone forgot to tell restaurants and food service that gas is back down to $2.00 +/- a gallon.

[/threadjack]

Back to lo mein/udon noodles.
James has been grazing on this all week, and he RARELY touches leftovers other than beans and rice. He's had it at least four times, and I brought some to the chef at work, he and the cooks enjoyed it too.

Refresh my memory, please. Is Canal Place the art house uptown, or is it the duplex in the failed mall cum retirement community in Carrollton?

Neither.
The Prytania on Prytania Street uptown is still holding its own!!
I think you're remembering Movie Pitchers on Bienville St.? It's gone, I think.

This is in the "mall" at Canal Place on the foot of Canal St. on the corner of Canal Street and North Peters, on the edge of the French Quarter right behind the Aquarium of the Americas.

Movie Pitchers closed before they built the Sav a Center on Carrollton. I saw a couple of flicks there before it closed. Never been to Canal Place it seems.

There was a 2 story, 2 screen cinema in a multi story mall that closed in roughly 2000 and was redeveloped into a retirement home. The cinema property wasn't part of the redevelopment, so I thought they might have reopened after the storm. I think it was between Napoleon and Carrollton. It was down by the river levee. I know that the Joy reopened and that they were working on the Loews. Have they finished with it? Architecturally speaking, it was a hidden gem inside you would have never guessed was there based on the facade. The Saenger is a first class movie palace and from the pictures I've seen, is now fabulously restored.
