i wish I could find cheap "select" cuts. we started supplementing our dog's food with a little 'home made' dogfood to help her gain weight (and she was getting hot-spots, which went away when we started adding vitamin E to her food...). I used a freezer burned eye of round in the last batch...

Check the international markets. The one in Smyrna in particular. Also if there is a Latin market like the one on Allgood and 41 is a good bet too.

I am seeing a number of good price drops on top sirloin, flank and shoulder steaks. Ground beef is still ridiculous unless you buy it in an industrial chub pack. For what they want for it, I can buy reduced Chuck and grind it myself. Wouldn't be the first time.

ground beef is apparently a profit center for grocery stores now

$4 a pound? Oh, yes. last night we went to wally's folly and walked through the meat. $5.50 a pound for top sirloin? The other day we were at sam's and found ribeye for $7 and I bought fantastic angus flank there the other day. It seems that beef is one of those things that resist downward pressure.

Wouldn't touch that crap with a ten meter cattle prod. I won't buy the pre packaged hamburger patties either. They are frozen chubs that have been band sawed and packaged. It's one of the reasons we don't buy beef more than once a month or so. I can get a high quality ham for less than 80% ground beef.
