Nothing wrong with a little dietary tannic input.

A new Canadian whisky for me last night... Gooderham & Worts Little Trinity Three Grain 17 Year Old.
Having already polished off bottles of G&W's excellent Four Grain (profiled HERE on the CW Home Page), I held high expectations for this newer release. I wasn't disappointed. Given its greater age, the oak certainly plays a bigger role in the 17-year old. However, the spicy wood input is well gauged, and there's no sign of the whisky being too old. Rather, the flavours come across as balanced and tasty to boot. However, this is certainly not a whisky to rush in the glass, as it takes some time to reveal its hidden complexities. Very, very good overall!

Bookers is good if you like the Beam peanut brittle funk. I like it. Been a while since I popped one. Have too many open bottles at the moment

I'm presently working my way through a bottle of Clynelish 14 Year Old, so a dram of this excellent malt was certainly in order last night. This one must certainly count among the most consistent of Scotches, as I've been enjoying its tastiness for decades.

The one pictured above and another Venezuelan bottled under the Plantation label (that is, bottled in France by C. Ferrand of Cognac fame) count among the finest rums I've tasted. The Santa Teresa veers toward a richly textured, raisiny style while the Plantation was more lightly textured and displayed a distinctive pineapple flavour.

Had some Panamanian rum awhile back aged for over 20 years. I'm really not a rum guy, but it was pretty good. Never heard of rum from Panama either.

Actually, C. Ferrand sources rums from all over the Caribbean for its Plantation series, including from Panama. The rums are then shipped to France to undergo further ageing in a variety of casks. I haven't had a bad one yet. The last two I purchased were a 'Grand Cru' from Jamaica and a 'Gran Anejo', which was a blend of rums from Guatemala and Belize. But that Plantation Venezuelan rum still sticks in my mind for its purity of flavour, balance and complexity.
