Green coffee storage
New thinking emerging.
Link #1 Link #2 Thanks to Norman Vazquez (aka Novasurf @ HCF) for these links. Norman is proprietor of Uncle Beanz, and he has superb green coffee. I've been buying pretty much all of my coffee from Norman for the past year or so, and I've never been disappointed. In particular, he has a true knack for finding stellar Ethiopian beans...though recent developments in that country bode ill for all of us who love their coffee. Yes, that's a blatant plug. No, I have no financial interest in Norman's operation. I calls 'em as I sees 'em, simple as that.

it makes sense. I will not get compulsive about storing the green beans... I will not get compulsive...

Tell you what...those two articles make me want to keep fewer beans on hand, so I can reasonably expect to drink through my stash in a year or less. At times, I've had more than 60lbs of coffee on hand. No more.

I posted why I started using these bags in the coffee roasters anonymous thread, but I thought I'd show me using them for the green beans here. It's REALLY simple with these bags.
Here are the green beans vacuumed. I just cut the description off the bags they came in and slipped them into the vacuum bags. Here are some of them in the freezer: Here are some of the roasted coffees I've vacuumed up:

What I like is that as needed I can open one of the pouches, roast what I want, and reseal the bag and vacuum it shut again. Works great!
I do recommend doing what I did and put a small piece of tape (with a folded-over edge) over the vacuum hole though. On a rare occasion one of the bags will leak. I've discovered that by putting a small piece of tape over the hole (and folding the edge over so I can pull it off easily when re-vacuuming) it prevents that.
