My guess would be that it had something to do with taxes. They may charge proportionately higher rates over 90 proof, so the WT is brought in just under that.
I don't think that's it because they have this one INSTEAD of the 80 proof, but still market the 101 proof in New Zealand.

Any Kiwis here who know why the hell this is?
