Davidoff 50th Anniversaio Robusto

Very smooth light Connecticut wrapper with a good firm bunch. The aromas from the foot are aged tobacco and a little spice and tobacco from the foot. The cold draw is perfect. Tonight’s beverage is a cold Topo Chico.

The initial flavors are nutty with a perfumey note that I always associate with Davidoffs. There is a definite dry note at the beginning. As you would expect from a Davidoff, the ash and burn are perfect.

In the first third the flavor profile has nuances of pipe tobacco, like a toasted Burley. Not unpleasant, just unexpected. The retrohale has notes that remind me very much of English Blend pipe tobaccos. The burn and ash remain perfect.

During the second third the ash remains very solid and the burn is excellent. I am still reminded of pipe tobacco, even moreso than the cigars I have smoked with perique and latakia specifically rolled into the cigar. This is more a Prince Albert blend. The retrohale is very smooth with almost no pepper notes. The burn and ash remain perfect.

This a very mild bodied cigar that pairs very well with mineral water. And it still retains the predominant flavors of a mild English pipe tobacco. There is even a light cherry note in the flavor profile.

Approaching the final inch removing the bands causes damage to the very fragile wrapper. This cigar has much more complex flavors than the typical Davidoff, but once again the complexity of flavors remains that of pipe tobacco. Apart from the very fragile wrapper, the construction is excellent. I was just looking to smoke a cigar tonight, not a pipe tobacco flavored cigar. If you’re a great fan of Davidoffs, then I would recommend it; otherwise I can’t bring myself to rate this cigar above 7.5/10. Joe Bob says check it out if you are a Davidoff fan.
