I never thought I would say this

I have been one who has voiced my displeasure in the growing ring gauges in cigars. I've always preferred a ring gauge of 50. And I still do. But I have found with one particular line of cigars that I prefer a large ring gauge.

I have often identified that CAO cigars are very well crafted, but that for my tastes I only like the Brazilia line. However, I really only like the GOL. The other sizes just don't work for me. The GOL has a ring gauge of 56. I have noticed that with the larger ring gauge that the cigar burns cooler. And I like that.

I recently decided, after much consideration, to do the unthinkable and I ordered a box of the Brazilia Amazon. This is a 6 x 60 cigar. I smoked my first one tonight and I love it. Even more than the GOL. The only drawback, if you can call it that, is that it lasted for almost 2 hours. It burns very cool and is very enjoyable. When I need a cigar that will only last an hour I'll smoke the GOL. But when I want one that will last longer, the Amazon is the one.

I haven't changed my mind about large ring gauges. I'm still not a fan. But this CAO Brazilia Amazon is a winner in my book.

There are a few that get a place in my rotation that are 60 or so, but most are tapered at the end so I can cut a corona-sized head.

Yeah, if it's a torpedo then the head is not going to have a ring gauge that is as large. Like you said, the opening on a torpedo is usually smaller than even a 50 ring gauge.

Never cared for any cigar with a less-than-50 ring gauge. Have a few bespokes with 55 gauge. Quite lovely.

48 (Churchill) and 50 have always been my preference. I never cared much for smaller ring gauges, although a 52 torpedo would obviously have a smaller ring gauge at the head of the cigar. With this CAO Brazilia Amazon I now list a 60 ring gauge amongst my favorites.

I don't anticipate that, but I won't say "never."

I'm still waiting for someone to take one for the team and try one of these

I tried a 70 ring cigar on the golf course. It was Jonnie something made by Oscar. It wasn't bad after I getting use to the ring size. Lasted the whole round of golf.
