Hey Sinatra Fans!
If you could own only one Sinatra album, which one would it be? (other than compilations)
My first thought was "In the wee small hours".......but after thinking a moment, decided it would definitely be "Live at the Sands" w/Count Basie's orchestra. Ring-a-ding-ding!!!

How about the Dorsey-Sinatra pairings? I bought several albums of that in an estate sale (and you have no idea how many records I had to sort though to find them), and although they were re-mastered from 78's, they are sill among my favorites.
I was listening to old podcasts from Dennis Prager's show today while doing housework (I'm about 2 weeks behind because of the winter games) and he mentioned that as a classical listener (and conductor), he rarely hears words when he listens to vocal tunes. More of an extra instrument than a lyricist. his exception was Sinatra, and while I'm not a clacisisst, I tend to agree. Sinatra was a talent all his own and will likely never be repeated, if even imitated (Michael Buble and Harry Connick, Jr. do a passable impression).

When I listen to music I listen to the words. When I'm playing in a band, I only concentrate on the music. I listen to the singer's phrasing for timing, but not really the lyrics.
