Why bother with rush hour traffic, Downing St Pub is close to the Eastex and West loop at Kirby and Westheimer. Come for some cigars and drinks then make your way home after rush hour is over.

Anyone interested?

Reminder: Downing Street has a no hats and collared shirt dress code requirement.

Learned this the hard way. I had to shop one-handed in there while I held my hat in my other hand. Guy was a real asshole about it. We had the CW event there for the IPCPR show in 2007. I'm fine with no hat, indoors, but provide places for those of us who wear them. Either a substantial hat rack, or shelves, especially INSIDE the humidor, would go a long way to better customer service.

But the guy was so by-the-book on the issue it really soured me on the whole place. Sad, even moreso because many cigar smokers like to wear a good hat, especially a fine Panama when they smoke.

What made it even funnier was that he was an Aggie, and was "Tea-Sip This" and "Tea-Sip That" and "A&M is the REAL fan's, and working man's team, while Texas fans are all snobs, climbers and wannabes" Irony so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Great venue, though, beautiful, comfortable.

Yes. There is a hat rack at the door now, I think. And while I haven't seen any issues I can understand how that would sour your experience.

I know that I have gotten away with jeans and the like, even shorts, but haven't tried to break the rule per se.

But it is a great venue and convenient for many of us in Houston, at least I hope.
