Whiskies and Port Casks

That's the title of my latest A Rich Pour column (No. 39), which is featured on the Cigar Weekly Home Page.

Most fans of whiskies (especially Scotches) have encountered spirits aged in used Bourbon barrels and Sherry casks. But the utilization of Port casks can put an entirely new spin on the flavour spectrum of whiskies.

Have a look HERE.

Another great read Doug.

I'll have to take a look at this article later for sure. Sounds very interesting.

Wow! I just finished reading. Again, wow! Just superb. If I had the money I'd buy every bottle in the review. I'm amazed at how you can detect all the flavors and nuances. Yes, experience helps. But I think it's more than that. Whatever it is, you have it. Bravo!

Wonderful article. I checked out the Balvenie 21 Yr Port Wood online, and at $229 a bottle, it's a little out of my price range. Especially for something I've never had. But your article makes it awfully tempting. I wonder if a local bar might have it, and what they'd charge for single glass.

The cost HAS risen dramatically over the last few years. Hitting a local 'watering hole' to try it would appear to be a good option, Rob.

masters of malt actually packages a lot of high end scotch in 30ml bottles...

https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskie...-whisky/?srh=1

you can make up a sampler pack of 5 such sized bottles

shipping is going to be painful, put it is well south of a buying the whole bottle, they do not have free shipping to the best of my pathetically limited knowledge

Do you think your average bar would have this?

I'd have to get it to go so I can drink it at home with a cigar.

By the way, the Balvenie 21 Year Old goes for CDN$25 a pour at one of my favourite local hangouts.

I've had it in bars... 20 to 35 bucks a pour. I've seen it at several cigar bars.
