Bright Eyes

I just heard this group (pretty much one guy with some help) on the local public radio (re: indie radio) station last week and based on that one song, downloaded the whole album, "Cassadega," off of iTunes.

WOW. This is amazing song writing. Fits well with my recent Van Morrison kick. So harmonic and flowing. The imagery in his words is simply stunning. Big sounds with a feel of simplicity. Folky but hauntingly huge. Big sonic textures.

If you like stuff like Van Morrison, Ray LaMontagne, or Elvis Costello, well.. it's a progression from there. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings also appear as guests on the album if that helps.

I think I once heard Bright Eyes referred to as "emo" but I can't see that. Then again, maybe I just don't understand contemporary labels. It's folky to me. All I know is I really dig this album. Just thought I'd share.
