I need to buy a new receiver as a replacement so I may receive Dolby Digital.

I know which Model I need (RCA DRD450RG) MSRP per RCA is about $150. RCA DRD480RE (Discontinued) and replaced by RCA DRD485RG would also work, but have MORE features, and cost, than I need.

Trying to find it on the NET, but everyone wants you to sign over your left nut to buy, EVEN those who offer NO discount.

I am a current DirecTV Customer, and will activate the same day it arrives.

Any ideas

Sancho, I have a spare receiver at home. Let me check out which model I have tonight. Maybe we can do a trade!

SP..i have Dishnetwork (same company now) and i bought a new reciever months ago for the same reason...the new reciever has great features...one that lets you stop live programming for a half a hour...up to three hrs for a fee....

just some info for you...on Dishnetwork there is only one pay for view station at this time that permits actual dolby surround, and i don't know what directtv has...

Not to many, but I'm sure the list is growing.

I have dish network as well, the PVR501 unit that lets you record (like a TIVO). I believe on Dish, the dolby digital is reserved for Pay per View and some movie channel broadcasts. It has been this way for over a year and not much has changed in the way of Dolby Digital offerings. You would have more bang for your buck if your receiver did dolby pro-logic II because you can apply it to all channels and get pretty darn good results (better than regular pro-logic). Just my 2 cents.

IF it did, but it doesn't, unfortunately.

Well, I got a company to sell me the RCA DRD485RG for $140 delivered, because they FU and tried to sell me a DRD480RE (discontinued) which it turns out they did NOT have.

Well, everything is set, and I'm getting PCM (44.1 kHz) on regular DTV. According to the Dolby site, this is fully compatable with Dobly Pro Logic. This is much better than analog.

Some PPV movies are Dolby Digital 5.1, and some of the intros are DD 2.0.
