Lightbulb I don't like these things at all

You know, the little rubber tips you slip onto the bit of a pipe. I can't get used to the feel of them. I know they protect the pipe bit, but. I put one on my new pipe and am trying to get used to it. The one good thing is I put one on an old Sav Bing's Favorite that has a broken bit and I was able to smoke it without the pipe turning in my mouth. I guess the rubber tip does have some merit.

Where the heck did that lightbulb thingy in the thread's title come from?

I find them far more comfortable for clenching and use on all of my pipes. Keeps the stem mint as well.

Well, after about a month of using these things, I am getting used to them. They are definitely better for the bit of the pipe and I'm enjoying the clenching part not having to worry about tooth marks. Andy, you were right on these. The only problem I have is trying to get them on a wide bit. My not so nimble fingers have a problem with these. What do you do to make it easier to get these tips on the larger bits?

Pipesandcigars has large ones, but yeah the regular sized ones take a bit of effort on the large stems.
