Good white wine for food

I'm starting to get back into wine this year. I've mostly enjoyed red wine in the past (Zin, Pinot, Cab, Barbera), but these really don't pair up well with lighter summertime foods ... fish, chicken, pasta salads, veggies.

I've gone to quite a few smaller N. Calif wineries over the past weeks - and while the trend is to get away from the super oakey Chardonnays of years past, I haven't found a white wine that really wows me. Many are still really dry or with vegetal / citrusy flavors that I just don't enjoy.

What's out there that has good fruit flavors, not very dry and maybe even a bit sweet? I'd prefer CA (or at least US) based wines as these seem more readily available at the local Bevmo and less expensive.
