I found this interesting article about morta pipes.

Interesting! I can honestly say that I'd never even heard of morta before.

The problem I have with Morta pipes is they tend to smoke more wet than briar, assuming due to the density of the material not being able to absorb moisture as much.

I have four of em, three Tinskys and a Davorin.
I love em. I don't smoke the Davorin often, simply because it's so damn huge; a thumb disappears in it. This one is one of my favorite pipes.

Hermit, that is a really cool looking pipe. I remember that poker Tinsky with a bent stem look. I have always liked Tinsky pipes. I'll acquire one someday.

I've owned several morta pipes and don't care for them. Mainly because I found them to smoke hot and wet.
Also they can absolutely ghost. So can meerschaum for that matter. Smoke a strongly flavored tobacco in any pipe a lot and it will ghost. I have also found that morta pipes (at least the ones I've had) did have a distinctive flavor. I disagree with the article on almost all counts. That said, morta does make for a good looking pipe! |
