Not only was she the female voice of the Platters, but one of the very first women of rock-n-roll, daddy-o!!! Unlike a lot of the otehr doo wop acts of early rock and roll, the Platters always seemed to stay right on pitch vocally (something all these modern 'boy bands' can only dream about, except Boys to Men...those guys really had a good sense of pitch, even though I was not a big fan of their sound).
So, ya think Zola really was married to Frankie Lymon? I know she lost the court battle, but... Anyway, here is the NY Times obit my old bass player sent to me. He knew I was a fan of the Platters. Here tis: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/02/ob...rssnyt&emc=rss
