No, the Baratza Vario is likely overkill for your application, Robert, but I'd seriously think about a burr grinder that would deliver a uniform grind for drip rather than a chopped bean which would have a lot of dust and fragments. Also, the flat burr grinders do tend to crush the beans and create heat that could sour the cup.
By all accounts, the Baratza Encore, which is essentially the replacement to the Solis Maestro, is a great choice at @ $130. The Capresso Infinity, at @ $80, is another solid choice. Step up to the Vario or the Rocky if you're getting into the espresso game.
