Step one will be to avoid anything with a fruit or other kind of flavor in the name (caramel?). That ought to trim a few off the list...

I'd probably start by figuring out which path to stay on. Scotch, Whiskey, Rum, Fruity stuff.

Actually my suggestion would be to isolate those items you aren't likely to find at a local store. Lots of that stuff is everyday, ordinary fare, nothing particularly special about it. I'd try the more exotic drinks, the harder-to-get things. I mean, seriously, Baileys??
After that, the second tier would be liquors you always wanted to try but haven't gotten around to yet. That's what I'd do if it were me.
