Civil War G.A.R. Presentation Meerschaum
Near as I can figure this pipe was presented at a reunion of a Civil War unit to it's former Captain. Maybe a 25th reunion? The inscription circles the rim and is partially worn off at the front. Probably where the old timer rapped out his dottle. Inscription reads! Presented to Capt. Ric...l..ss Co.H 7th Mich. Cav. A web search shows the Co. H Capt. was named Richard Douglass who passed in 1901. Looks like this was his. This is an enormous Meerschaum in the European style popular in the later 19th century. The fancy parts are probably coin silver.
