Black Cavendish
I've smoked a pipe for over forty years and still enjoy smoking a bowl of simple black cavendish. The steaming process eliminates the majority of the nicotine, so for those of us who enjoy smoking but try to avoid heavy doses of nicotine, black cavendish is excellent. As noted above, you do have to be selective about which black cavendish you purchase. Some is heavily laden with aromatic casing and p.g. That may lead to really severe tongue bite.
For those just beginning to smoke a pipe, I recommend blending by-the-bowl until you have a mixture that tastes good, smokes cool, doesn't bite, and has a pleasant room note for those around you. Try 60% black cavendish, 30% aromatic vanilla, 10% English latakia blend. These are very rough estimates. Try 3 tablespoons black cavendish, 4 teaspoons aromatic vanilla, and a scant teaspoon of a traditional English latakia blend. Don't mix too much...you may not like the blend. |
