Travel Mug or Ceramic Mug?

Anyone think that coffee when sipped out of a ceramic coffee mug tastes a lot better than out of a travel mug??

I have a Starbucks travel mug that I use 90% of the time b/c I have a 1-cup coffee maker (brews right into my travel mug), but I almost never finish the coffee when I drink out of the travel mug. Whenever I transfer the coffee from the travel mug to a ceramic mug, I find myself downing the first cup and having to brew another...

Anyone else?

I still drink it all, no matter what. However, I find that even metal travel mugs eventually get permeated with the coffee and it makes everything you pour in there taste the same.

does the ceramic cup have a lid?

If not, maybe the ceramic tastes better because you can get a better smell of the coffee while drinking it.

Interesting thought!

I have never been able to get into straight black coffee. It's just too bitter or something. I've only had one decent cup of straight black in my life. Consequently, with cream and sugar, it all tastes the same whether or not it's in a ceramic or plastic travel.

Do you drink "drip" coffee? The reason I ask is because I have "converted" several of my coffee drinking friends to drinking their coffee black by having them try a cup brewed in a Press......makes ALL the difference in the world IMO.

I've often thought that this is why coffee tastes better out of an open-top container (paper, ceramic, whatever). Same with beer, it seems to taste better out of an open-top container than out of a bottle. With greater exposure to the aroma, you can "taste" the aromatic components. When you have a cold, everything tastes bland because you can't smell well if at all; a travel mug or to-go cup with lid drastically limits your ability to pick up the aroma too. Also look at wine glasses, and you have different shapes for each style to highlight certain aromas (beer is the same to some extent, but not so widely done). Why don't we have something similar for different coffees?

My million dollar invention is going to be a ceramic open-top travel mug. When I figure out the invisible force field that will keep the coffee in and allows the aroma out, I'll be set...

I hate plastic for any beverage, especially hot ones.

I can pick up the taste and odor of the dishwashing detergent.
