Very moving.
I was fortunate, to have had cigars WITH my dad - even though he did not partake (cigarette guy, and then, the last couple years, cancer...) - but we sat, and talked, and bathed in nostalgic conversation more than once.

This year, my first fathers day without him (sad!), my youngest son came home from Athens, took me to see a movie and paid for it with his own money (and the beer too!) and then my older son and daughter in law came over for dinner... Amazing, and I shared a tasty cigar with both of them. I hope that their memories of me are as deep and heartfelt as yours are Senor Slack... and yours, J.

If my kids think as fondly of me later in their lives as you guys do of yours (and I of mine) then I've done it right and deserved the Fathers Days I celebrated.

I lost my Dad to the C-monster 17 years ago. Fathers' Day is hard, even though I have two sons who love me.

Wow, great posts gentlemen; I lost my Dad in 2011. He was only 56. I miss him every day. I get to be a dad to two great kids though, and another due in September.

Very moving gentlemen. I still have my dad 82 years young didn't get to have a great fathers dad with him, he wasn't feeling well then on Monday he fell 3 times in about 2 hours. Been in the hospital since then having therapy after he gets released. Spent the last 2 days running around with my Mom. I'll have a long sit down when he gets home though. Did get to spend some time with my son, daughter and grandson though.

Knowing both of your son's, John, you did very well in raising them. Matt and Andrew are both exceptional young men. I have to also give a shout out to Tommy. Benton and James are also exceptional young men. Other than Stan's daughter, I haven't met many of your kids. If these three groups are any indication, we have some very good father's among our ranks and deserve a round of applause. You've done well, gentlemen!

Point of humor. My son spent FD at a casino in Biloxi. Learned him right, I did.

Well said, all! Thanks to all for sharing.

My father passed physically four and a half years ago, just short of his 88th birthday. Unfortunately, Alzheimers had taken him from us almost ten years before that. A member of the greatest generation, he also smoked cigars. Having skipped first grade, as an aunt had already taught him to read, he graduated high school at 16. Enlisted as soon as he turned 17 and saw serious combat in France. Went through college on the GI Bill after the war. Fathered me and my six younger siblings and provided well for us. Was married to my mother for sixty five years at his passing. It's good to take time to remember the really important things.
