Meerschaum questions

Thinking of buying a meerschaum and had two questions:

1.) I know it doesn't absorb the flavor of the previous bowl as bad as briar and I know you have to clean the bowl to avoid getting any cake (also unlike briar), but can you smoke a meerschaum more frequently they you would be able a briar without the nasty-tasting negative effects?

2.) Looking to buy an estate piece off EBay...why in the hell do they all have the most blackened, burnt out rims I've ever seen? That's a bad thing for meerschaums like it is for briars, right?

Thanks in advance
