Let’s Get Active

C’mon folks, spring is just around the corner. Let’s shake those winter doldrums and get active on this board. Participation in these activities is one of the great things about CW and helps strengthen our community.

FOGs, remember what it was like when you were a newbie. I sure do. I was excited and couldn’t wait to participate with the big boys. Well, we’ve got a new crop of newbies showing up everyday. Let’s show ‘em the ropes.

Newbies, there’s plenty going on for you to participate in. Don’t be shy, jump right in and get active. It’s the best way to meet the other members of our board (and get a chance to try some new cigars).

Class of 2006 – many of you have been shouldering the load lately. Keep up the good work.

Here’s a list of the continuing activities on CW (at least the ones I can think of):

Newbie Sampler Trade (http://forums.cigarweekly.com/showthread.php?t=19662) – An opportunity for new members of CW to purchase great samplers of cigars from some of the FOGs (and usually at greatly reduced prices).

Pay It Forward (http://forums.cigarweekly.com/showthread.php?t=146560) - A chance to grab another CWer’s cigars and then a chance to give away some of your own.

Full Flavor Federation PIF (http://forums.cigarweekly.com/showthread.php?t=139535)– Same as the PIF above, but only for “real man” cigars (no Macanuetereds).

Wishlist PIF (http://forums.cigarweekly.com/showthread.php?t=148053)– A relatively new activity. Another PIF but in this one you name some cigars you’d like to try. When someone fulfills your PIF, they get to post their own list of cigars they’d like to try.

Cigar Lotto (http://forums.cigarweekly.com/showthread.php?t=132170) - Everyone who participates gets a number. Using the Powerball drawing, if your number is drawn, all players send you cigars. And when your number isn’t drawn, you send the winner some cigars.

NC Wishlist (http://forums.cigarweekly.com/showthread.php?t=128447)– You simply post a list of non-Cuban cigars that you’d like to try. Another CWer will come along, if you’re lucky, and fulfill all or some of your wishlist.

Birthday Gift List (http://forums.cigarweekly.com/showthread.php?t=127680) – Sign up for this and when it’s your birth month, other players send you cigars. The other eleven months, you send other participants some cigars.

For all of our members outside the US, I hear there a similar activities in the LCdH room for Cuban cigars. Being a US citizen, I’ve obviously never participated, but knowing some of our non-US brothers, I’m sure they’re great activities too.

Keep your eye open for our seasonal activities throughout the year – National Dog Rocket Day, Peep Jousting, Trick or Treat, and Secret Santa to name a few.

So c’mon folks, let’s liven this place up a little and get active in our community.

To increase my own activity level, I'll send a prize pack to someone in the first twenty posts to this thread. Only one post per customer please. I get to pick the deserving soul.

Also I'd like to suggest:

Free Cigars thread (http://forums.cigarweekly.com/showthread.php?t=146789)
You get free cigars and drinks for doing nothing more than posting. If you hit one of the lucky winning numbers, you win free stuff! This moves from room to room, so keep an eye out.

Currently it's located in the I'll Drink To That forum, so you may have to request membership into it. Prizes so far have been cigars (of course), local root beers, and green coffee beans, with many more interesting things coming up.

Thanks for posting this "Call to Action". Mabye seasonal depression is to blame, but participation on the borad has seemed slow in the last few months, and I'm guilty as well. I'll try and do my part as well, this forum was such a great asset to me when I joined, I'd like to return the favor. I went from a cigar smoker to a Cigar Enthusiast in not time after joining. The folks here have been nothing less than amazing, and have really pushed me into expanding my knowledge and love for cigars.

I have supreme confidence that things will pick up as the weather gets warmer, but don't wait until then.

Excellent post Frank as well as a good wake up call! This forum has seemed to have slowed some over the winter months and hopefully this will help to stir the activity.

This was also a great place for me when I joined up. I had been smoking for a short while when I joined and only thought I new quite a bit about cigars. I learned tons of new info after joining this site and am still learning new things everyday.

Great thread. Thanks for posting those links. Since I'm still a noooob, I'm still learning the ropes. Having a good time learning more that I thought I knew...but, hey, that's how it works. I hope to contribute more...or as much as my time (work) will allow.

Cheers!
