Of course, they will never be back. These guys are 45 year old millionaires now. That's not even close to the mindset of a 20 year old, poor, often-times literally starving musician with severe anger issues and a drug/alcohol dependency. That's no way to live, but that's exactly how to write revolutionary heavy metal music. There's too much "real life" in the way for these guys to ever regain that mindset. Many of us (perhaps thankfully) never had it and never will. In that regard, Death Magnetic cannot be compared to any of the vaunted early albums. It is, however, a pretty-damn good thrash metal record.
In this analysis I borrow heavily from the ideas of my Blog of the Leaf associate, known here (sooner or later) as Mike_Everyday. Big ups!
