Me too! I wanted to bring back a box but customs says the current rule is $100 in value

You received bad information. The $100 limit was eliminated in October of last year.

"The U.S. allows you to bring in up to 100 cigars (four standard boxes) or $800 worth without paying a duty, whether the cigars are Cuban, Dominican, Nicaraguan or from another country. You can do this once every 31 days.

Grab two or three bundles of peso cigars. It's what the locals smoke and they are damned good. They used to be about $5 a bundle, but since the exchange adjustment, no clue now.
