I hit pretty much the same mark you did with the roast I did last night and am drinking this morning, James. I went maybe 15 seconds after the segue from first to second crack, and got that faint gloss that the beans get before you start getting flecks of oil on their surfaces. Mind you, I was going primarily by smell, but that's the roast I hit. By this morning, the flecks of oil were starting to show, and the blueberry aroma was distinct. Ground aroma...oh yeah. So I have blueberries in the cup, though not knock-you-over intense like that first batch, and there's a note of smokiness underpinning the fruit flavors that makes me think I overshot the perfect mark just a tad.

Anyway, frustrating though this bean may be, it keeps showing me moments of brilliance...enough shadows of the glory I got in that first batch to keep me interested.
