1995 Hoyo De Montterey Epicure No.2

Ah, the Epicure No.2. One of the finest blends I have expirienced, I always keep a few cabinets aging in my cabinets. A decidedly fantastic smoke at 5 years of age and nothing short of magical at 10+

This particular specimen is one of my first ever cabinets that has been nursed tenderly for the last 13 years. Each one has been a joy to smoke and worth the wait and effort.

One particularly favorible aspect of this cigar is the fact that it continuely ages for the better, no highs or lows except for the sick period. Couple that with the fact that it has a "anytime anywhere" flavor profile that can be enjoyed after a heavy meal or while walking in the park and you have a staple in any serious smoking man's cigar inventory. A true classic.

I had smoked a couple of cigars every year since I bought the cabinet, and I am still astounded by the continuous transformation. If only I had bought another cabinet or two, but I digress.

When young the cigar portrayed excellent construction and had a profile mainly of pepper, sweet cedar and that in your face young tobacco flavor that is decidedly Havana

At 13 years old the cigar has matured into something else entirely, the leathery tobacco has evolved into that formidable yet smooth chewy gingerbread like tobacco flavor exhibited by aged Habanos, the peppery underbite is replaced with a continueosly evolving spice tone that is simply heavenly over a pleasent sweet cedar creamy layer.

Progressing into the second third portrays the blend's true genius, notions of coffee and vanilla previousely suspected and out of reach are in full swing offset by an incremental increase in cocoa covered tobacco flavors.

Getting close to the last third so I ditch the cigar and write a quick note to myself : "Double Epi.2 inventory"
