I ordered a couple of the 7 cigar samplers from JR's (honk honk! ) a few weeks ago. When I got them, I peeked under the tissue expecting to see that beautiful dark brown maduro wrapper I keep hearing about on the ERdM's. What I found was hardly dark brown. More of a medium brown... definitely not what I think of when I think "maduro". I tried to console myself by telling myself that maduro is not a color, just a more mature leaf... It didn't work, I was still bummed.
So anyway, last night I decided to give it a shot anyway. Much to my delight, it started out VERY tasty! Just the slightest bit of bite for the frist half inch. After that it turned into a great tasting smoke! It had a nutty flavor, with some creamy vanilla thrown in... Just what I like out of a cigar! It intensified a bit towards the end and developed a nice leathery flavor. The only thing I didn't like was the bitter finish after the cigar was done. Tasted a bit like an ash tray smells. Oh well, that's Villazon for ya (butit was still worth it). Maybe it's 'cause my expectations weren't all that high, but this turned out to be a great cigar! Now I know why everyone raves about these! I see a box of 30 in my future...
