John Grisham; cigar lover?

I have read somewhere that John Grisham enjoys a cigar. I believe it may have been in CA magazine. In any case, I am reading his new book "The Broker" and found a certain passage interesting.
Two characters are in a bar in a country overseas. One asks the other, "Mind if I smoke?" The other character replies, "Of course not, we're not in America."

I remember when we used to say, we can do this or that, we're not in Russia. Now countries overseas, seem to have more freedom than we Americans, in the land of the free?
