CLE Eiroa CBT Maduro Toro (6 x 54)

CBT is short for Capa Banda Tripa, which is a tobacco leaf that cures and ferments with a lot of body and strength usually deriving from the very high primings on a tobacco plant. During fermentation, these leaves typically take on a very dark, or Maduro, color.

This beauty has an oily dark wrapper that smells of dark chocolate, with more of the same from the foot. A crisp clip reveals a somewhat firm draw although the bunch feels not too firm. I'm expecting a full body cigar like the Camacho Triple Maduro. Let's see what happens.

Initial light and a short puff or two later and I am enjoying a bountiful smoke with notes of cedar, coffee and cocoa. There is a slight tang on the retrohale that I can't quite place. The draw remains fairly firm and the burn is mostly even. The cigar also produces a very solid medium grey ash.

Got a little too comfortable with how firm the ash was and got "lapped" at about 1-1/2". Approaching 1/3 the draw is still firm but the smoke is still plentiful. Also, the tang is gone leaving very pleasant flavors of coffee, cocoa and cedar with some leather notes building.

At 2/3 the cedar has diminished as the leather has built. A very nice balance of flavors with a good complexity. After one slight correction the burn has been perfect. The smoke remains cool and pleasant.

This is a very good cigar that I would recommend to all who favor Maduro cigars. The darker flavors blend together wonderfully and the only thing keeping it from being perfect is the firm draw, and that wasn't enough to detract significantly from the enjoyment. 9.5/10, Joe Bob says check it out.
