Anyone try the Rendezvous Rye yet?
A shipment of this spirit from the High West Distillery in Utah just arrived at the downtown Montreal specialty wine & spirits outlet, and I didn't hesitate in procuring a bottle to try. Opened 'er up last night. First pour (pre-dinner) was over a single ice cube into a Glencairn Canadian Whisky tasting glass, and second (post-dinner) was neat into a Cognac tasting glass. Incredibly smooth either which way. The bittersweet rye spiciness possessed a delicate, subtle characteristic until the spices began to 'pop' near the finish. It's obvious that the 16-year old component carries, for the most part, the day over the younger 6-year old component. A lot going on here, but you need to pay attention and take the time to fully appreciate the underlying complexity. Lovely whiskey, all told. I'm very glad I didn't wait!
