Casings
In order for the casings to function optimally, to flavor the tobacco, they can't be allowed to evaporate. Consequently, the flavorant is mixed with syrupy p.g. and then adhered to the tobacco. When you smoke the tobacco, the casing is left as moist residue, typically, at the bottom of the bowl and in the shank and stem of the pipe. When smoking a moist aromatic, it's usually necesary to run a pipe cleaner through the pipe a couple of times to lessen the gurgling and moisture coming into your mouth. I do smoke some aromatics, but typically smoke them in a Kirsten, so the radiator traps the moisture and I get a dry smoke. There are some uncased aromatics, but these are not tobaccos that have vanilla, or cherry, or pistachio flavorants.
When I smoke cased aromatics, I periodically have to cleanse the bowl with grain alcohol to clean the residue out of the bowl. |
