Tins of tobacco
I have been purchasing some tins of tobacco for storage. Do you guys keep the unopened tins on the shelf the way they are, or do you put them in baggies? Since they are unopened, I just leave mine on the shelf. I hope they don't dry up.

I've had mold grow on tobacco kept in the tin. Perhaps my environment, but I'd suggest perhaps vacuum sealing the tins for storage?

Tins are usually sealed air tight so no need to vacuum seal them. Check for dents on the tins. If they have been dropped and are dented, this might be a sign that the tin is no longer air tight, and the tobacco inside will dry up over time.

If the tobacco has mold and was from a sealed tin, it is not from outside conditions since the tins are sealed air tight. The mold is likely from a bad batch of tobacco used in the blend.

thinking on this I'm not certain the tin was sealed or not... but it was disappointing. I don't smoke my pipes as much - i've certainly more than enough cigars and certainly more than enough pipe tobacco to keep me for the next decade...
