Another old timer

This French Briar pipe cleaned up really well. The main problem, and the reason I don't buy many capped pipes, is that the rim was very dinged up. I removed the cap and used a flat end punch to press the dings out as best I could. Then Used a small stick of wood to press and tap it flat. I did this with a piece of wood underneath the cap. The results aren't great, but are still much, much better than it was.
The stem is amber colored Bakelite. Good thing as Bakelite holds up much better over time than amber. It's got to be 1910-1920.

That is so awesome, both the pipe itself and your always superior craftsmanship.

I did. I bought a pipe cleaning dvd and the materials I thought I'd need. Then I bought low priced pipes on eBay and practiced. I also did a lot of reading and asked lots of questions at a couple pipe forums. It took me a couple years of experimenting to streamline the restoration process, understand which pipes are desirable, which ones I like, what to avoid, and to recognize all of that from a crappy eBay photo.
