I was driving home from work yesterday when I spotted a guy on a motor cycle comming up behind me. He was smoking a pipe

. Well he had one clenched between his teeth. We were stopped at a traffic light with him behind me. He was drawing on that thing like he was smoking it. I saw no smoke. After the light turned green and we got up to about 60mph, he passed me, pipe still clenched in teeth.

Anyone participate in such activities?

Did this motorcycle have a windshield? If not, I don't see any way this guy could be smoking a pipe going 60 mph.

I seem to remember somebody talking about doing this on alt.smokers.pipes, but I dunno how common it is.

I can tell you that Dunhill got into the pipe business through similar circumstances - Alfred Dunhill sold car accessories, and his first pipe had a lip on the front designed to make it more smokeable in the very drafty open cars of the time.

No windshield.

Just lots of little burnt spots on his face

I've seen it in the past, the guy used to come in to the shop I ran and buy up all the bent basket pipes we had. Because riding and smoking, he would burn through the bowl in a matter of a few months. More power to him, but its not for me!!
