I've been having a bit of a showdown with this fat maduro bastard. I absolutely hated the 1st one I tried 3 months ago.
I threw the other 1 I bought in my El Rey. Well, for the past several months, it's been staring me down thru my humidor's glass window everytime I walked by; challenging me, mocking me for coughing and spitting out his brother after only smoking 1/3. 'Harsh? Biting Pepper taste? Wimp!' Well, tonite I felt up to the challenge. Damned if 3 months of aging didn't mellow the feller out. It was very oily and a wonderful cedar, slight pepper, and mineral perfume taste filled my mouth. The shiny black wrapper contrasted wonderfully with snow white ash. My book forgotten, (my heart pounding a bit from the strength) I sat back and really enjoyed it. Strong, full bodied cigars like this are made for aging- give the guys another try.
