Puros Indios Viejo
Quick and dirty. My first experience with PI was not good and I had stayed away from the brand until now. With the encouragement of several brothers here I tried it again.
The first third: it had the same taste that I remembered from before, harsh and bitter. I wouldn't say it tasted like ammonia but it had hints of it in the beginning. I almost threw it out, but decided to stick with it. The second third: the cigar mellowed out but it became almost flavorless. What a difference in thirds going from bitter to nothing. Again, I almost threw it out but decided to stick with it. (this was a churchill, by the way) The last third: the last third was amazingly good. It had a certain sweetness, not overpowering but noticeable. At this point I didn't want to give it up as it got closer to my fingers and the inevitable burning of the nose and fingertips. I'm glad I stuck with it because the payoff was excellent. However, getting there was a chore. Perhaps a shorter vitola might be more to my liking? 7 out of 10
