La Escepcion 2010.
Some of you guys already know I've had kind of a thing for them ever since the first few years, and every year I've bought a box or two as they came out on special.
I got a current production single while they were still in the stores, and liked it a lot. JR got them just a few months ago, and have had them on clearance since then. I bought a box of the robustos. Seriously, I'm at a loss. The first one smelled like a turd, was tarry tasting, and left a pitch like taste in my mouth. I threw it so hard I hurt my shoulder before I even got past a half inch. The second one was better, but still quite stiff and rather harsh, and I didn't care for it. Third was better, but all things considered, still not loveable. Two real concerns of mine. First, Unless I am really misremembering it, these are the wrong color. They were a medium colorado ems, and these are a very dark ems/maduro. Something wrong there, unless maybe I had a 2009 in the past and not the 2010. In any case, all of these have been bitter and less than pleasant to smoke. All of them have tunneled. (but to be fair, a lot of the "villazon" smokes tend to tunnel for me.) Just a word of warning. The 2010 don't seem to be the fine things that they once were. Maybe ten more years of age is needed. I'll smoke a few more after a few months, and if they have improved, I will most certainly print a retraction, but in general, I'd avoid them. |
