Springfield temp/humidity

I have been using a "Springfield" temperature/humidity digital from walmart which so far has been working pretty good. I took it out today at a reading of 70.2% and was preparing to move it to an unseasoned humi. I noticed on the back of it, that there was one of those "inspected by" stickers, very small. I took it off not thinking about anything, noticed there was a hole underneath and the next thing I knew it read 80%. Not sure if this sticker impeded the humidity much but has this happened to anyone?? I have it in a baggy with a saltwater solution now and it is now up to 84%. I will leave it in for a few more hours.

Is this thing a piece of shit or what?? I am heading out to get another anyway.

INFORMATION: I live in maine, temp outside is 65 or so and RAINING. Maybe the outside air is really that saturated but I would expect it to start dropping again....
