Unfinished Savinelli Seconds
On another pipe discussion board I was directed to a site that sells unfinished Savinelli seconds. I bought two at $39.50 each. They smoke wonderfully, but aren't the prettiest pipes I've owned. Both have significant pits. The story is that they're made from high quality briar, but because of pits and/or poor grain, don't merit finishing, so they're sold unbranded/unfinished. I'm not quite certain I believe that tale.
Last week I stumbled across Savinelli seconds at Iwan Ries, except they're not noted as seconds, and they're $32.00. I ordered the Small Horn. It arrived today. What a gorgeous pipe!!! I'm debating whether to oil it or use some carnuba wax. It is definitely not a second. Now I'm going to order the Poker. |
